For nearly 4 years, for baby Pham Ngoc Thuy Tram (born August 28, 2022, residing in Residential Group No. 7, Phu Xuan Ward, Hue City), the hospital has no longer been a strange place, but has become a familiar "home". Her childhood was associated with white corridors, intravenous fluids, oxygen and prolonged pain...
Born healthy, but after only 13 days, baby Tram began to show symptoms of diarrhea, continuous vomiting, and physical exhaustion. The family immediately took her to Hue Central Hospital for emergency treatment. She had to stay in the emergency department for more than 75 days, then continued to be transferred to many departments such as gastroenterology, neonatal, respiratory... for treatment.

At one point, the baby was hospitalized for nearly a year continuously, maintaining antibiotics for a long time. Since then, the journey of treatment has almost had no stopping point. Occasionally, when the situation worsens, she has to be transferred to another department for emergency treatment.
Currently, baby Tram suffers from many serious diseases such as pneumonia, laryngitis edema, asthma, kidney damage, arthritis... Her body is malnourished, at nearly 4 years old she only weighs about 8kg, does not know how to walk, cannot stand on her own. When the disease becomes severe, she has to breathe oxygen, even go to the intensive care unit.
At the beginning of March 2026, baby Tram had a fever higher than 40 degrees Celsius, requiring emergency treatment and intensive care for many days. Outside the resuscitation room, Ms. Phan Thi Kim Lien (born in 1994) - baby Tram's mother - could only sit and wait in worry. "Looking at my child lying there and not knowing what the situation was like, I could only cry. I just hoped my child would get through the critical condition...", Ms. Lien choked up.
To take care of her child, Ms. Lien quit her job in August 2022. Before that, she was a worker with a salary of about 4 million VND/month. Since her child got sick, Ms. Lien has almost lived in the hospital, spending 4 Tet holidays here with her child.

Sleepless nights followed each other, constant worry caused Ms. Lien's health to decline. From 45kg, now she only weighs 37kg. "Some days my child was in pain, crying all night, I didn't dare to sleep. I was just afraid that if something happened, I wouldn't have time to react...", Ms. Lien sadly shared.
The economic burden fell on the husband's shoulders - Mr. Pham Van Cuong (born in 1987). Mr. Cuong is currently a garment worker with an income of about 6 million VND/month. Every day, after work, he rushes to the hospital to help his wife take care of the children, and then returns to work.
According to Ms. Lien, nearly 4 years of treatment for baby Tram, the total cost has reached nearly 300 million VND. The family has to borrow everywhere, from relatives, villagers to banks. The cost of medicine alone is nearly 10 million VND per month, not including milk costs of about 2 million VND.
Not only baby Tram, Ms. Lien's family also has an eldest son, Pham Van Nhat Huy (1st grade). Previously, Huy also had a blood infection and had to be treated for a long time...
In her hometown, Tram's paternal grandparents are old and in poor health. Her paternal grandmother often has stomach and joint pain, and every month she has to spend extra money on medicine... The family was already difficult, and now it is even more difficult.
Currently, baby Tram is subsidized about 1 million VND/month, this amount is insignificant compared to treatment costs, medicine... The burden still weighs on the father's shoulders with his meager worker salary.
According to Ms. Lien, amidst the months of illness, baby Tram still has very simple dreams. Every time she watches her phone and sees her young friends going to school, she says: "I also want to go to school, have friends, have a teacher". Hearing her son say that, Ms. Lien only knew to hug her son, gently comforting him: "You try to get well quickly, then I will send you to school". A simple promise, but for the family at this time it is a luxury.
Talking to a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Son - Head of Residential Group No. 7, Phu Xuan Ward, Hue City - said that Tram's family circumstances are particularly difficult in the locality.
My family is a worker, income is unstable, while the cost of treatment for my child has been prolonged for many years, very expensive. We really hope philanthropists will pay attention and join hands to support so that my child has more opportunities for treatment," Mr. Son shared.
