Former Wimbledon champion Boris Becker has put up for sale his wedding ring because he is in debt. This week, a London court held a trial for the former German tennis player in connection with his bankruptcy.
The wedding ring is just one of the properties that the 54-year-old former Grand Slam winner has had to sell. Real estate worth €10 million in Mallorca, Spain, was also being offered for sale by the former tennis player to turn his bankruptcy around.
The former world No. 1 was accused of concealing or failing to hand over assets, including two of the three Wimbledon men's singles titles and the 1992 Olympic gold medal. Becker was declared bankrupt in June 2017, owing private bank Arbuthnot Latham more than £3 million in loans to buy assets on the province of province called province province province province province's province, Finca.
Southwark Crown said Becker was questioned at his home in Wimbledon in July 2017. Michael Bint, the official representative of the Bankruptcy Support Agency, had a conversation with Becker.
Accordingly, Jonathan Laidlaw, Becker's lawyer who provided Bint with the situation, said: "Becker volunteered to sell the expensive wedding ring. His biggest concern is to find a way out of bankruptcy, pay off debts, by selling Finca, to Arbuthnot Latham," Laidlaw added.
However, Bint admitted that he had not been able to sign Becker's preliminary Q&A documents since 2007.
In addition to not providing souvenirs, including the 1991 and 1996 Australian Open titles and the Davis Cup championship and gold coins, Becker was also accused of hiding 1.13 million Euros from selling a Mercedes dealership he owned in Germany. The money is believed to have been paid into his business account.
The plaintiffs have heard that the money was used as his own "latch" to pay for personal expenses, such as tuition for children and shopping at luxury department stores in London.
Becker is believed to have transferred hundreds of thousands of pounds to other accounts, including the accounts of his ex-wife Barbara Becker and his wife who was also scolded by him, Sharlely Becker.
He was also accused of failing to declare two German properties, as well as interest in a £2.25 million apartment in Chelsea, west London, owned by his daughter Anna Ermakova, and hiding an 825,000-year-old bank loan.
Becker, who has won 49 singles titles in his 16-year playing career, has denied all allegations against him.
