The test showed the system's combat capability when it simultaneously shot down two high-speed fixed-wing targets and a multi- fan take-off aircraft.
According to the announcement on August 25, the weapons used include QRSAM (rapid-re action surface-to-air missile), VSHORADS (short-range anti-aircraft missile) and a high-energy laser weapons system. All have been operating smoothly in detecting, closely following and destroying targets. Other components of the system such as radar, communications, control centers and drone detection equipment all proved effective.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has previously announced plans to build domestic air defense shields to protect armed forces and civilian property from the air threat.
This plan is part of the Mission Sudarshan Chakra initiative, aiming to develop an integrated air defense system within 10 years while adding attack capabilities.
In early August, the New Delhi government approved defense procurement packages worth about $7.6 billion, including the addition of BrahMos missiles, armed drones and many projects to modernize forces.
The National Defense Procurement Council also approved long-term maintenance plans for key systems, including the air force's Boeing fleet and a comprehensive annual maintenance contract for the S-400 missile system.
