Information about Wilma strengthening into a super typhoon appears in a video from the Facebook page TNC Nationwide with 321,000 followers.
The video reached 6,500 views, 144 interactions and 42 shares, confirming Wilma, the 23rd typhoon of 2025 in the Philippines, has strengthened into a super typhoon.
The video also includes a list of affected areas, school closures and wind warning areas due to the impact of Hurricane Wilma.
However, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) denied the information, saying Wilma is a tropical depression, with no forecast showing that the system is likely to strengthen into a super typhoon.
According to the bulletin at 2:00 p.m. on December 5, tropical depression Wilma is about 222 km east of Borongan City, Eastern Samar. The tropical depression is currently experiencing maximum sustained winds of 45 km/h near its center, gusts of 55 km/h, and is moving west-northwest at a speed of 10 km/h. The strong wind area due to the influence of this tropical depression is up to 220km from the center.
Wilma, a potential system to become the 16th storm in the South China Sea, is expected to move west-southwest until December 6 before turning westward for the remainder of the forecast period.
The center of tropical depression Wilma may make a first landfall in Eastern Visayas from the evening of December 5 to the morning of December 6. The tropical depression will then continue to sweep across the Visayas through December 7.
Wilma is forecast to enter the Sulu Sea and may pass through the North Palawan on the morning of December 8.
Forecasters in the Philippines say Wilma will remain a tropical depression throughout the forecast period. In particular, there is a possibility that tropical depression Wilma will intensify when it enters the East Sea.
Similarly, in the long-term storm forecast released on December 5, PAGASA said that tropical storm Wilma will operate within the Philippine Forecast Area (PAR) for the week of December 5 to December 11.
In this forecast, PAGASA experts said that Wilma will pass through Visayas and Palawan during the forecast period and reach tropical storm intensity.
