The latest storm information from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on the afternoon of December 4 said that tropical depression Wilma is in the Philippine Forecast Area (PAR).
The center of tropical depression Wilma is about 625km east of Catarman, Northern Samar, Philippines. Wilma is moving west-southwest at a speed of 20 km/h, with maximum sustained winds of 45 km/h and gusts of up to 55 km/h.
Wilma is forecast to strengthen into a storm soon. This is the 23rd typhoon in the Philippines in 2025, and also the first to appear in December.
PAGASA forecasters predict Wilma will make its first landfall in the Eastern Visayas or Dinagat Island area in the evening of December 5 or early morning of December 6. Wilma is forecast to sweep the Visayas region until December 8, then head into the Sulu Sea and continue north of Palawan from the evening of December 8 to the morning of December 9.
The Philippine weather agency said that Wilma may intensify before making landfall, but it is likely to maintain a tropical depression throughout the forecast period.
