Cambodia announces remarkable figures after fraud crackdown campaign

The large-scale online fraud crackdown campaign in Cambodia has caused more than 110,000 foreigners to leave the country in just over 1 month.

A report on February 5 by the Secretariat of the Cambodian Commission for Technology Crime Prevention and Control (CCTC) said that from January 1 to the beginning of February 2026, inter-sectoral forces at the central and local levels have cracked down on technology crime activities at a total of 190 locations, including 44 casinos.

The operations were conducted nationwide, including the provinces of Preah Sihanouk, Kampot, Kandal, Svay Rieng, Phnom Penh, Pursat, Prey Veng and Mondulkiri.

Functional forces seized a large amount of exhibits such as computers, phones and SIM cards, and at the same time made records for handling according to the law.

Authorities have temporarily detained 2,508 suspects and are closely coordinating with authorities in China, the United States, South Korea and some other countries to clarify the organized crime networks behind the incidents.

These activities caused 11,095 foreigners to leave Cambodia in the period from January to early February 2026," CCTC said.

In the past 8 months, Cambodian courts have initiated prosecution proceedings for 37 major cases, sentencing 172 ringleaders and accomplices, according to a report by the Ministry of Justice cited by CCTC.

CCTC emphasized that these measures demonstrate political determination and strict law enforcement in the fight against technology fraud nationwide, without exception, to protect the economic security and social order of Cambodia, the region and the world.

Cambodia is not a place for cybercriminals to take advantage of to carry out fraud or transnational criminal activities. Any individual or organization behind these activities will face the most severe punishment, without compromise or intervention" - the report stated.

Speaking on February 4, Cambodian Interior Ministry spokesman Touch Sokhak said that the country aims to completely eliminate technology crime by next April.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Hun Manet called on people to participate in "cleaning their homes" thoroughly, implying a crackdown campaign being deployed nationwide.
