The Thai Supreme Court issued a verdict on the trial of Ms. Yingluck Shinawatra for negligence in the rice subsidy program at 9:00 a.m. this morning.
According to The Nation, the scene in front of the court on Chaeng Wattana Street today is very different from last month. Seeing that Yingluck Shinawatra is unlikely to appear for trial, the number of supporters standing outside court is significantly smaller than last month.
At 8am, about 50 supporters of the former Thai Prime Minister were seen in front of the Supreme Court, in contrast to thousands of supporters who were restricted in a restricted area in front of the Thai Supreme Court headquarters last month. This time, supporters of Yingluck Shinawatra are allowed to stand in court.
The Nation said that only two units of the capital's police were deployed to ensure security in today's trial.
Notably, no Pheu Thai party official or former lawmaker was seen appearing near the court.
Some supporters of Yingluck Shinawatra wore T-shirts with the message "we miss those abroad" printed with a crab image, in Thai it was "Phu" - Yingluck's household name.
The verdict date was postponed to today after Yingluck Shinawatra was absent from court on August 25 and the court issued an arrest warrant. The former Thai Prime Minister is now believed to have fled the country.
