North Korean Ambassador to the United Nations Ja Song Nam left the meeting room before US President Donald Trump spoke at the 72nd United Nations General Assembly meeting at the United Nations headquarters in New York, US, on September 19.
The North Korean delegation to the United Nations told NBC that Ambassador Ja Song Nam's move represented the message that Pyongyang "bocotted" Donald Trump's speech. North Korea said it would only let a subordinate diplomat act as a representative in the meeting room.
Ambassador Ja Song Nam is North Korea's representative to the United Nations. He began his mission in New York on February 28, 2014.
During his assignment, North Korean Ambassador Ja Song Nam frankly spoke about the US military presence in South Korea. On 6 March, he wrote a letter to the British Ambassador to the United Nations, mentioning that "the situation on the Korean peninsula is gradually moving towards the brink of a nuclear war" as reported by Reuters during US-South Korea military drills.
In his speech at the Pyongyang- boycotted Congress, US President Donald Trump issued a strong warning that North Korea is threatening the world with "unimaginable loss of life" when pursuing its nuclear and ballistic missile program.
"The United States has great strength and patience, but if we are forced to defend ourselves or our allies, we have no choice but to completely destroy North Korea. The missile man is carrying out a suicide mission for himself and his administration," Donald Trump said in an allusion to North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
