Mr. Wadephul held talks with Indian Foreign Minister S.Jaishanka and was received by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Despite noting that there are still certain disagreements between Germany and India, Mr. Wadephul almost only says what the Indian side likes to hear.
In India, Mr. Wadephul highlighted India's role, position and political influence in the world, giving India a special role and capacity in directly affecting Russia and Russian President Vladimir Putin to quickly end the conflict in Ukraine.
Mr. Wadephul also opposed US President Donald Trump imposing high-level trade protection tariffs on India. Mr. Wadephul publicly supported the EU and India in promoting negotiations and signing free trade agreements and set a goal of doubling trade exchange rates between Germany and India in the coming time.
All of this seems to suggest that Germany is trying to tighten relations with India. This is very noteworthy because Germany is a large and important member of the EU, NATO and from the perspective of ideology and value system, it is on the same side as the US and Russia.
Taking advantage of India and promoting cooperation with India is in the interests of Germany's own interests but also the common interests of the EU and NATO. India is an important partner of Germany, having conflicts with the US and is an important partner of Russia and China, having a great influence in the global Southern bloc. Taking advantage of India's role and political influence in the world for Germany and the EU and NATO means taking advantage of India's role and political influence in the world, thereby helping Germany increase its position in the EU, NATO and for the US. Although the partners are far away, they have great practical value.
