RT reported that American billionaire Elon Musk confirmed that he donated $75 million to former US President Donald Trump's election campaign in recent months.
Founded in July by the tech tycoon himself, the American Political Action Committee (America PAC) said its goal is to boost voter turnout for Republican candidates in hotly contested battleground states that could decide the 2024 US presidential election on November 5.
Elon Musk, who has a net worth of $246.5 billion, said he has financially supported both Republican and Democratic candidates in previous campaigns, without clearly showing a preference for any party.
However, after the failed assassination attempt on Trump on July 13, the tech billionaire publicly endorsed the Republican candidate and has been an ardent supporter ever since.
Responding to a post from another X user — who wrote that “Elon Musk donates nearly $75 million to @America PAC,” the SpaceX and Tesla CEO offered a one-word confirmation on October 16.
The same day, Reuters and Bloomberg cited information from the Federal Election Committee, saying that Elon Musk donated nearly $75 million to America PAC between July and September.
The tech mogul was the group's sole donor during that period, emerging as one of the Republican Party's top donors across the board, according to Reuters.
America PAC's main focus is recruiting campaigners and placing digital ads to get Trump supporters out to vote.
On October 13, the Republican candidate announced that if elected, he would create a “new position: Secretary of Cost Reduction,” specifically designed for Elon Musk. Mr. Trump added that “great businessman” Elon Musk had expressed interest in taking on the role.
In early October, Elon Musk appeared with the former president at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, where Trump was shot and injured in July. At the event, Elon Musk described the November 5 general election as “the most important election of our lifetimes.” He also accused the Democratic Party of trying to “take away free speech.”
In an article on October 16, Bloomberg said that the Republican candidate is lagging far behind his opponent Kamala Harris in fundraising. The Democratic presidential candidate has conducted an active campaign to mobilize voters in all seven battleground states, according to Bloomberg.
