Iran warns of tough measures against US economic war parties

Iran warns that any country participating in US economic measures aimed at this country will be considered an enemy.

On August 22 (Tehran time), according to Xinhua news agency, the Secretary of the Iranian Supreme National Security Council - Mr. Mohsen Rezaei - warned that any country participating in the US "economic war and isolation" campaign against Iran would be considered an enemy by Tehran.

Mr. Rezaei made the statement in an interview with Iranian State Television (IRIB).

According to Mr. Rezaei, Iran will first negotiate with countries participating in US economic measures and ask these countries not to engage in the conflict. However, if they refuse, Tehran will target the interests of these countries.

Mr. Rezaei also warned that if neighboring countries choose to participate in US-led encirclement measures against Iran, Iran will prevent oil exports through the Strait of Hormuz.

If neighboring countries choose to participate, Iran will not let even a drop of oil be exported through the Strait of Hormuz," Mr. Rezaei said.

He said that the country has sought to overcome US sanctions and maintain oil sales for many years.

Mr. Rezaei also reiterated Iran's position that the Strait of Hormuz will continue to be closed until the US fulfills its commitments in the memorandum of understanding on peace between Iran and the US signed in June.

According to him, this time, the US needs to be the first to act to implement the commitments.

The statement was made after US President Donald Trump said on August 19 that Washington would launch a large-scale economic war against Iran. Mr. Trump described this as an "unprecedentedly large-scale economic and isolated warfare campaign.
