Israel uses tanks to destroy refugee area in Gaza

Bùi Đức |

On October 12, a series of shelling from Israeli tanks seriously affected infrastructure and people in the city of Jabalia in the Gaza Strip.

According to Reuters, Israeli tanks and soldiers continuously shelled two residential buildings and the Nuseirat camp in the city of Jabalia after advancing deep into the area on October 12. The attack caused severe damage to many facilities and caused many casualties.

Gaza health officials said at least 29 people had been killed, but the toll could rise as many of the wounded were in critical condition. The latest attack brought the death toll to more than 150 since Israel expanded its ground offensive in Gaza weeks ago.

The main objective of the offensive was to destroy Hamas. Residents were urged to evacuate immediately before the Israeli army landed in the city of Jabalia. In a message to residents, the Israeli army declared Jabalia a “dangerous combat zone.”

Israel also provided fuel to hospitals in the attacked areas to evacuate patients undergoing treatment to safety.

The Israeli military said 20 Hamas members were killed in the October 12 attack but did not provide any evidence.

Hamas has been repeatedly accused by Israel of using civilian homes as military bases and weapons storage areas. However, Hamas has repeatedly denied this.

On October 10, 28 people were killed and 54 others injured in Deir Al-Balah Street - a shelter for about 1 million Palestinians - in an Israeli attack.

Palestinian officials and the United Nations say there is no safe place left in Gaza for people to take refuge. They also express concern about problems such as shortages of energy, food and medical aid in southern Gaza.

The war in Gaza has claimed the lives of an estimated 186,000 Palestinians since it began on October 7, 2023. Of these, 42,000 were directly affected by Israeli bombings, while the rest died from disease and starvation. The data was updated to September 30, 2024 and compiled by experts at Brown University (USA).
