According to AP, southern Lebanon suffered a series of artillery shells from the Israeli Air Force on the morning of September 23 (local time).
According to the local news agency, the Israeli army attacked several cities, causing heavy damage to infrastructure.
In the images of the scene posted on social media by local people, all around is rubble. There is still no information about the number of casualties.
The Israeli military did not comment further beyond announcing that the reason for the attack was to destroy Hezbollah-affiliated elements in Lebanon.
Israel had previously informed the public about the attack and called on people to evacuate quickly from areas used by Hezbollah as weapons depots.
“If you are in Hezbollah weapons storage areas, leave immediately and wait for further information,” an Arabic-language Israeli statement read on Lebanese media.
The airstrike came after Hezbollah launched more than 100 rockets at Haifa - Israel's largest city in the north on September 22.
On September 21, Israel also carried out an airstrike targeting the Lebanese capital Beirut. The attack killed a senior Hezbollah leader and many other important members. In addition, women and children were also among the dead.
The frequency of airstrikes between Israel and Hezbollah has increased since the series of explosions involving electronic devices took place in Lebanon. While Hezbollah has repeatedly accused Israel of being the mastermind behind these sophisticated attacks, Israel has neither denied nor confirmed them.
