The guest named Ankush Dutta booked a room at Roseate House Hotel in Delhi, India on May 30, 2019 and was expected to return the room the next day. However, this guest extended his stay by 603 nights until January 22, 2021, leaving unpaid bills up to 70,000 USD.
The accounts were forged to conceal the unpaid fees, the hotels police complaint was cited by the Indian Express.
Regarding this incident, the managers of Roseate House Hotel have also filed a complaint with Indian police against a number of employees for plotting, forgery and fraud.
Indian officials suspect that hotel staff were bribed to manipulate internal software systems.
According to India TV News, Roseate House Hotel in Aerocity near Indira Gandhi International Airport has filed a complaint with the airport police station about the incident.
According to the complaint, the head of the hotel's reception department was identified as prem Prakash. The hotel's regulations state that if the requests for payment exceed 72 hours, they must be notified to the CEO and financial controller. However, Prakash did not send any information to the superiors.
The hotel accused Prakash of employing various methods of operation to support Dutta during his long stay. Prakash impersonated the account to show that other guests at the hotel had paid Dutta. However, Prakash's information is fabricated.
The hotel requested authorities to take strict legal action against the culprit for committing criminal acts, fraud, forgery and distorting accounts. The initial police investigation determined that there were crimes in the incident and the investigation is ongoing.
