From June 13-14, the working delegation of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese led by Chairman of the Committee Nguyen Trung Kien visited Korea to carry out community support and mobilization activities.
At the meeting with nearly 20 overseas Vietnamese representing 9 Vietnamese associations in Korea, Mr. Nguyen Trung Kien and the delegation listened to share about the living, studying and working conditions of the community of more than 350,000 overseas Vietnamese in Korea.
Vietnamese Ambassador to Korea Vu Ho said that the Vietnamese community here is a young community with rapid development and integration. Associations such as the Vietnam People's Association, the Student Association, the Vietnam Business Association in Korea, the Women's Union, etc. have had many activities to support people to integrate into the local society, teach Vietnamese, exchange culture, promote investment and connect the community.
Representatives of the associations recommended that the Committee continue to organize activities for overseas Vietnamese, support the construction of Vietnamese bookcases, enhance legal education for young people, support connections to the Innovation Network and promptly commend overseas Vietnamese for their positive contributions.
In terms of policy, people expressed their desire to return to Vietnamese nationality but still maintain foreign nationality to feel secure in living and working, while being more attached to their homeland.
Mr. Nguyen Trung Kien said that in recent times, many policies for overseas Vietnamese have been concretized. The National Assembly has passed three related laws: Law on Identification, Law on Housing, Law on Land, and is considering amending the Law on Citizenship to facilitate the admission and return of Vietnamese citizenship.
On this occasion, the Committee presented the Vietnam People's Committee in Korea with nearly 400 books for teaching and learning Vietnamese, books on culture, history, comics... to promote the teaching of Vietnamese in the area.
In Busan, the first Consulate General of Vietnam - Ms. Doan Phuong Lan - shared the plan to establish a Consulate General and affirmed that she will accompany the community in upcoming activities.
The delegation also visited PLKOREA TRADING CO., LTD in Incheon of the Vu Mao overseas Vietnamese family.

Chairman Nguyen Trung Kien highly appreciated Mr. Mao's efforts to rise up, and hoped that he would continue to spread the spirit of returning to his homeland, joining hands to support people in Korea.
At the end of the program, the working group acknowledged the opinions of overseas Vietnamese and affirmed that it will continue to coordinate with relevant agencies to increasingly better meet the legitimate aspirations of the overseas Vietnamese community.
