The Sun reported on August 7 that Francisco Cornejo in California was attacked by a robber who took away 200,000 USD, a few dozen seconds after he had just withdrawn money from the bank.
The footage filmed by a passenger shows Francisco Cornejo being beaten to the ground and the suspect - wearing a black shirt covering his head - running away very quickly with his wallet.
The incident occurred on a day in late July, when Cornejo - who suffered a shoulder bracing and bruises in many places - had just withdrawn money from a Chase bank branch. This amount is to help cover expenses for his family during the pandemic, KTLA-TV reported.
Cornejo's lawyer, Nathan Soleimani, said: "My boss parked the car as close to the bank as possible because he knew he would withdraw a large sum of cash. Within a few minutes after that, as soon as he reached his car, he was attacked, beaten and robbed everything. He really fought for his life and when he was beaten, Cornejo tried his best to hold the bag tightly."
Lawyer Soleimani said his client had not told anyone that he planned to withdraw a large sum of money.
"We do not have any information to confirm that the incident is not a coincidence. However, it seems that this is a huge coincidence. How did the suspect know what was happening and appear exactly at that time? , the lawyer commented and called on anyone with further information to provide clues for the investigation into the robbery.
"My father could not have imagined such a brutal attack to happen to him. The witnesses said that my father fought with all his will despite being dragged by a robber. That amount of money is very difficult to earn and is the result of many years of work".
"My parents need this money to overcome the pandemic because both are unemployed, my 94-year-old grandmother needs to cover medical and living expenses, my younger sister needs money to pay for school and relatives in Mexico and El Salvador also need support. Many of our relatives have lost their jobs and homes due to the impact of COVID-19, Sindy Flroes - the victim's daughter - wrote on GoFundMe to call for help.
