Russian forces have seized control of 7 residential areas in Sumy province, Zaporizhia province and Donetsk People's Republic in the week from August 22-28 of the special military operation in Ukraine, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced on August 28.

Also in the period from August 22-28, 2026, the Russian armed forces conducted a large-scale attack and 12 coordinated attacks with precision guided weapons and long-range drones. The targets included businesses in the defense, metallurgy and oil refining industries, logistics centers, fuel infrastructure, energy and transportation serving the Ukrainian army, military airports, drone and component manufacturing workshops, ammunition, fuel, and equipment depots, along with temporary garrisons of Ukrainian units and foreign mercenaries.
According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, the attacks also reduced the capacity of Ukrainian seaport infrastructure used to receive and store military goods and fuel, lubricants. "This week, a Ukrainian Navy patrol ship and 8 ships participating in supply operations for the Ukrainian army, including 6 dry cargo ships and 2 oil tankers, were hit," the statement said.
Russian air defense forces announced that they had shot down 5,989 fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles, 80 guided bombs, 15 rockets from the US-made HIMARS complex and 14 Flamingo long-range cruise missiles during the week.
