The destruction of the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines could bring huge profits to the US, Alexander Ionov - a member of the Russian Presidential Council on Civil Society and Human Rights, shared with TASS news agency.
In terms of energy security, Russia is a fairly important strategic partner. That is why realists like Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico come to Russia to ensure stable fuel supply for the country. Meanwhile, pro-conflict in Europe participating in destroying the Nord Stream pipelines is no different from shooting themselves in the foot" - the Russian expert said.
He added: "Now, Americans will basically be able to turn Europe's energy crisis into another business deal. And of course, this will be a very attractive and profitable deal for them.
Previously, in an interview with RT India, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov also said that the US plans to restore Nord Stream and buy these gas pipelines from Europe at a very cheap price, then impose gas prices.
In September 2022, the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 pipelines were sabotaged. Only one branch of Nord Stream 2 remained intact.
The 1,224km long Nord Stream gas pipeline connects Vyborg, Russia to Greifswald, Germany across the Baltic Sea. Nord Stream has a capacity of 55 billion m3 of gas per year and Nord Stream 2 has an equivalent capacity. Nord Stream 2 was completed in 2021 but never put into operation.
