According to TASS news agency, on August 28 (local time), while talking with astronaut Reid Wiseman, the US President mentioned that a hole on the Moon was recently named after Mr. Wiseman's late wife.
I wish they would name such a place after me," Trump said.
According to TASS, Mr. Trump did not specify which landmarks on the Moon or which celestial bodies could be named after him.
During a visit to the Mission Control Center in Houston, the US President also had an exchange with astronauts currently working on the International Space Station (ISS).
Despite expressing his desire to have an extraterrestrial place named after him, Mr. Trump said he did not want to fly into space.
I will never agree to go into space," the US President said.
The visit to the Johnson Space Center takes place in the context of the US continuing to promote space exploration programs and the ambition to bring humans back to the Moon.
The Moon currently has thousands of named places, including impact craters, mountains, valleys and other geological structures. The naming of features on the Moon's surface is carried out according to international procedures and must be approved by the International Astronomical Union (IAU).
