On the morning of July 11, 2025, at the Presidential Palace, Member of the Party Central Committee, Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan welcomed Ms. Amanda Nguyen - a social activist and the first female spacewoman of Vietnamese origin to fly into space.
In a warm atmosphere, the Vice President congratulated and commended Ms. Amanda Nguyen for her special journey, demonstrating the spirit of constantly discovering and overcoming limits, strongly inspiring Vietnamese women and the young generation.
The Vice President highly appreciated Ms. Amanda Nguyen's efforts and contributions to preventing violence against women and promoting the Resolution of the United Nations General Assembly in 2022 on the rights of survivors of sexual violence.
The Vice President affirmed that Vietnam is always consistent in its policy of promoting gender equality, creating fair conditions and a safe environment for women, while protecting the legitimate rights stated in the Resolution.
Sharing about Vietnam's policies towards the overseas Vietnamese community, the Vice President emphasized that this is an inseparable part of the nation. She expressed her delight at the success and growth of the Vietnamese community in the US, and hoped that Ms. Amanda Nguyen would continue to promote her connecting role, contributing to promoting people-to-people exchanges between Vietnam and the US, especially in the context of the two countries organizing activities to celebrate the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations.
Expressing her gratitude for the welcome of the Vice President, Ms. Amanda Nguyen shared her honor and emotion at becoming the first Vietnamese woman to fly into space. She affirmed that this achievement is the result of her Vietnamese roots that she is always proud of. When looking at the Earth from the universe, she deeply feels her love for this planet and especially her homeland Vietnam.
She also thanked Vietnam for supporting the Resolution on the rights of survivors of sexual violence and hoped to continue to receive support in this field.
Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan shared more about the socio-economic development orientation of Vietnam, in which the development of science, technology and innovation is identified as the top national policy. Ms. Amanda Nguyen pledged to contribute to promoting Vietnam - US science and technology cooperation, especially in the field of human resource training.
Attending the meeting, US Ambassador to Vietnam Marc Knapper reported on the positive progress in the relationship between the two countries and affirmed that the US will continue to accompany Vietnam in the development process. The Vice President expressed his joy at the results achieved and sent his congratulations to the Ambassador on the occasion of the National Day of the United States.
At the end of the reception, the Vice President witnessed Ms. Amanda Nguyen handing over Vietnamese lotus seeds - provided by the Vietnam Space Center - which were once brought to space, as a symbol of the spirit of love for science and attachment to the homeland.
