According to Euractiv, on March 5, at a European Council meeting in Warsaw, Polish Digital Minister Krzysztof Gawkowski warned that US- Polish relations could fall into crisis if billionaire Elon Musk blocks Ukraine's access to Starlink.
Poland currently sponsors Starlink to Ukraine in both military and civilian fields. If billionaire Musk, who is also head of the US Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), terminates Kiev's access rights, it would mean unilaterally canceling the contract with an EU member state.
Mr. Gawkowski said that this move could spark a "big crisis in international relations".
Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Gawkowski emphasized: "I cannot imagine a situation where the business relationship between Poland and an American company is suddenly interrupted."
On March 4, Poland and EU countries began negotiations with Eutelsat - a French telecommunications company - to increase Internet connectivity for Ukraine, amid concerns that Starlink may stop operations in the country.
Concerns about Starlink increased after the US temporarily suspended military aid to Ukraine on March 3. Starlink plays an essential role in communication on the battlefield, becoming an important factor in military campaigns.
Last week, several unnamed US officials revealed to Reuters about pressure from Washington to force Kiev to open up important mineral exploitation industries, and mentioned the possibility of cutting access to Starlink.
The issue was raised during a meeting between US special missionary to Ukraine - Mr. Keith Kellogg, and President Volodymyr Zelensky. Accordingly, Ukraine was warned that Starlink service could be immediately cut if the two sides do not reach an agreement on important minerals.
Billionaire Elon Musk later denied the information, writing to X that Reuters' article was false, and accusing the news agency of lies". When contacted by Reuters for clarification, billionaire Musk did not respond. A Reuters spokesperson confirmed that the news agency remained on the page.
