RT reported that the new stadium, built according to FIFA and UEFA standards, was inaugurated on June 7 along with an Olympic-standard swimming pool. Both projects are fully funded by China.
At the entrance, there are statues of Belarus and China football players, but Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko has suggested adding a character.
I say it would be very appropriate to place a statue of my friend - Chairman of Xi Jinping - President Lukashenko spoke at the ceremony. It is thanks to him that China built this stadium with their own money. There are not many places like this in Europe.
This is a gift from the Chinese people. No Belarus rubles are used, President Lukashenko stressed.
The local government has also upgraded surrounding infrastructure, including a park and an additional stadium, turning the area into a modern sports center. The stadium opening ceremony featured a youth football match between Belarus and China with the participation of 33,000 spectators.
Mr. Lukashenko said that the projects demonstrate the increasingly deep connection between the two countries. He said the initiative stemmed from one of his previous visits to Beijing, where General Secretary and President Xi Jinping presented him with architectural models of these works as a personal gesture of friendship.
The proposal was made after the most recent visit of the President of Belarus to China. During the talks on June 4, Chairman of the ASEAN-Binh delegation congratulated Mr. Lukashenko on his re-election and affirmed that the two countries are sincere friends and good partners, emphasizing solid political trust and long-term cooperation between the two sides.
Mr. Tap Can Binh said that China considers its relationship with Belarus from a "strateistic and long-term perspective", calling for increased coordination in multilateral organizations, including the United Nations and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
President Lukashenko praised Beijing's global role, emphasizing China's steadfast stance in defending multilateralism and fighting sanctions and pressure from outside. He reaffirmed Belarus' trust in China and said that the two countries have a common desire to maintain global stability.
Today, the eyes of many countries, including Belarus, are on you, on Beijing, Lukashenko said.
