The latest typhoon information on the afternoon of November 7 from the Taiwan Weather Agency (CWA) said that tropical storm Fung-wong is about 2,190km east-southeast of the tip of Russia-China, the southernmost point of Taiwan (China). The storm is moving west at a speed of 25 km/h and is forecast to accelerate to 31 km/h.
Typhoon Fung-wong is in the sea east of the Philippines and is still quite far from Taiwan (China). CWA weather forecaster Tseng Chao-cheng said Fung-wong is likely to strengthen into a typhoon on the evening of November 7.
Typhoon Fung-wong is forecast to enter the East Sea on November 11, becoming Typhoon No. 14, then turning north, towards Taiwan (China). However, forecaster Tseng Chao-cheng warned that the direction of storm No. 14 in the East Sea is still uncertain.
Currently, the CWA cannot predict that Typhoon No. 14 in the East Sea will make landfall in Taiwan (China), pass through the Taiwan Strait or move further west. Fung-wong is forecast to be closest to Taiwan (China) between November 12 and 13.
Also on November 7, Taiwanese meteorologist Wu De-rong forecast that Typhoon Fung-wong will turn towards Taiwan (China) early next week.
He pointed out that after sweeping across northern Luzon, Philippines, Typhoon Fung-wong is expected to turn north towards the waters southwest of Taiwan (China).
From 10 November, the outer layer of the storm will begin to affect the northern and eastern part of the island. On November 11 and 12, all areas on Taiwan (China) were under the warning of strong winds and heavy rain.
Forecast track of Typhoon Fung-wong by several weather agencies, including the National Meteorological Center of China, Typhoon No. 14 in the East Sea is likely to approach Macau (China) from November 12 to November 13. Forecast models are not yet able to accurately predict the path, but the storm could reach an area 400-500km from Macau (China).
According to Windy.com, Fung-wong is likely to change course after crossing northern Luzon, Philippines, making landfall in an unknown location around the Taiwan Strait.
Similarly, the latest storm information from the US Navy's Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) said that potential super typhoon Fung-wong is strengthening, forecasting a complex change in direction in the coming days.
The bulletin said that when Fung-wong becomes the 14th storm in the East Sea, the subtropical high pressure in the north is forecast to weaken, while expanding to the east, causing Fung-wong to change direction, moving north in the final stage of the forecast period.
In terms of intensity, after entering the East Sea, Typhoon No. 14 Fung-wong will encounter a drier air mass from the monsoon north of the Taiwan Strait, leading to the possibility of the typhoon weakening in the second half of the forecast period.
