ONCB Deputy General Secretary Niyom termsrisook informed the press after the arrest of a woman in Pathum Thani province with about 28,000 ecstasy pills shaped like cartoon characters on October 8.
"The ecstasy pills are manufactured in France and the Netherlands. Drug traffickers have expanded their market to Southeast Asia since 2014. These drugs are smuggled through airports in Cambodia and Vietnam," he said.
According to Thai officials, the ecstasy pills were kept in Cambodia before being smuggled across natural borders to Thailand's Sa Kaeo province.
Mr. Niyom said that cartoon character shaking drug dealers in Thailand target teenagers because these pills are estimulated to be stimulating.
A source from ONCB told Bangkok Post that the amount of ecstasy pills with cartoon characters had been seized at Suvarnabhumi airport. The pills were smuggled from the Netherlands. In the Netherlands, each vien costs about 60 baht, equivalent to about 46,000 VND, but when it arrives in Thailand, the price increases 10 times.
