Andrei Badalov, Vice President of Transneft Group - the exclusive operator of the Transneft oil pipeline system - passed away after being thought to have fallen from a private window in the suburbs of Rublyovka, Moscow.
On July 5, Transneft confirmed that Mr. Andrei Badalov had passed away at the age of 62, but did not comment on the circumstances and time of death. The group said its work was in a "difficult and tense period" due to Western sanctions.
Russian news agency TASS quoted a law enforcement source as saying that Mr. Badalov's body was found under the windows of a house on the Rublyovo-Uspenskoye expressway.
The source said "the initial cause of death was suicide," adding that a preliminary investigation was underway.
Mr. Badalov has overseen Transneft's digital transformation since his appointment as Vice President in July 2021.
His death was the latest in a series of notable deaths and unexplained causes by senior executives in the Russian energy sector.
At least four deaths in 2022 are related to state energy giant Gazprom, while others involved executives of Novatek and Lukoil.
In September 2022, Lukoil Chairman Ravil Maganov died after falling from a hospital window in Moscow.
