On October 30 local time, the US Senate opposed President Donald Trump's global tariffs by voting to cancel the countervailing tax that affected more than 100 countries.
Four Republicans joined with all Democratic lawmakers voting 51-47 on the resolution to end global tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump through executive order.
Republican senators voting with Democrats in this vote are Susan Collins of Maine, Mitch McConnell and Rand Paul of Kentucky, and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska.
This is the third time Republicans have voted alongside Democrats on a tariff-related resolution this week. Previously, lawmakers voted to end the tax on Brazil and Canada.
Although considered a symbolic victory for those who criticized President Donald Trump's trade policies, the resolution is unlikely to take effect in practice because Speaker of the House of Representatives Mike Johnson (R again, Louisiana) will almost certainly not vote, and Mr. Donald Trump will vote against if passed.
