On August 30 (local time), TASS news agency reported that a drone boat drifted ashore in Samsun province, northern Turkey, on the Black Sea coast.
The owner of the boat has not yet been identified. The device was discovered by a local fisherman in Carsamba district. This person then reported the incident to the police.
Functional forces quickly cordoned off the area where the boat was discovered for inspection. There is no information to indicate whether the boat was carrying dangerous equipment or explosives or not.
The incident occurred in the context of many unmanned aerial vehicles and debris related to drones being continuously discovered in the Black Sea coastal provinces of Turkey recently.
According to information quoted by TASS, earlier that day, a drone was detected at sea near Zonguldak province, also on the Black Sea coast. Bomb disposal experts were deployed and disabled this device.
Turkey had previously also discovered unmanned boats drifting ashore in the Black Sea. One of these boats was approached and neutralized by bomb disposal forces after being identified as posing a danger.
The Black Sea is located near the Russia-Ukraine conflict zone and is an important maritime route connecting many countries in the region. Unmanned devices are increasingly used in military operations, so drifting objects or debris discovered at sea may require authorities to inspect.
However, there is no information confirming that the boat discovered in Samsun is related to the Russia-Ukraine conflict or any party. The owner and origin of the equipment have not yet been determined.
