Mr. Donald Trump arrived at the Osan air base in Gyeonggi province at 12:18 local time, before being welcomed by Korean Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha and Mr. Cho Yoon-je - the new Korean Ambassador to the US.
Immediately after arriving in Korea, Mr. Donald Trump traveled to the Humphreys Shelter - the new facility of Army Unit No. 8 in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province, on a Marine One helicopter.
At the base 70km south of Seoul, the US President was welcomed by South Korean President Moon Jae-in. The President and the US President had lunch with the US-Korea joint military in a large room.
"Hello everyone, the food is very delicious. Thank you everyone," Donald Trump said in the applause of the soldiers, according to Yonhap.
Donald Trump and Moon Jae-in were then briefly introduced to the North Korean situation at the headquarters of the US Army Unit No. 8 in South Korea before holding a high-level meeting in Seoul later in the day.
In his first brief comments to the media, US President Donald Trump mentioned his lunch with the soldiers.
"I chose a great, very delicious lunch, and I said, 'No, I want to eat with the soldiers.' And we have eaten with the army. It was a delicious meal and I can say they did a great, very impressive job," said Donald Trump.
Donald Trump has become the first US president to visit the Humphreysys factory - the largest US military installation abroad and is considered a new symbol of the alliance.
The expansion and renovation of the US military facility in South Korea (USFK) began in 2007 and the work has now been almost completed. South Korea has covered more than 90% of the project's costs, totaling $10.7 billion.
The US Army's No. 8 Army unit recently moved from Yongsan Garrison in Seoul to the complex that covers an area of 14.6 million square meters and includes 513 buildings.
Currently, the new base could hold about 26,000 US soldiers, their families and citizens, along with some South Korean soldiers. This figure is expected to increase to 42,000 in the coming years.
