Speaking in an interview published on July 7, Mr. Pezeshkian affirmed: "They did. They act, but fail".
According to the Iranian president, during the meeting he attended, Israel bombed the meeting area with the aim of assassinating him. He stressed that the plot was being carried out by Israel, not the US.
The Israeli side has not yet made an official comment on Mr. Pezeshkian's allegations. However, during the conflict, many senior officials in the Israeli government and army have publicly stated their desire to assassinate Iranian leaders, including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
In the interview, President Pezeshkian also mentioned the possibility of restarting nuclear negotiations with the US. He said Tehran was ready to resume talks if it could restore trust between the two sides.
There is one condition to restart negotiations: How can we trust the US again? How can we know for sure that while negotiations are taking place, Israel will not attack us again? he said.
Mr. Pezeshkian warned that the US, under President Donald Trump, should not continue to participate in the "endless war" in the Middle East. He said it was a conflict led by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, not by Washington.
The conflict between Israel and Iran flared up when Israel launched a frontline air campaign on June 13. These attacks killed many senior Iranian military commanders and scientists. Tehran responded with missile and drone attacks.
In the 12-day confrontation, the US also directly participated in the war, targeting Iran's nuclear facilities to force the country back to the negotiation table. In the end, both sides reached a ceasefire, but both sides claimed to be the winners. The conflict killed more than 900 people in Iran and 28 people in Israel.
