On the afternoon of October 8, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Public Security jointly held an international press conference to open the signing of the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime in Hanoi (Hanoi Convention).
The press conference was chaired by: Senior Lieutenant General Pham The Tung - Deputy Minister of Public Security, Mr. Dang Hoang Giang - Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Major General Le Xuan Minh - Director of the Department of Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention, Ministry of Public Security.
Speaking at the press conference, Deputy Minister Dang Hoang Giang emphasized that the signing ceremony of the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime with the theme "Fighting cybercrime - Sharing responsibility - Towards the future" will be held in Hanoi on October 25 and 26.
According to the Deputy Minister, this event will lay the foundation for a United Nations global document in the field of cybercrime prevention and control, similar to the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime 2000 and the Convention against Corruption (2003).
According to Deputy Minister Dang Hoang Giang, the Hanoi Convention promises to become an important legal tool to help member countries cooperate in preventing and combating cybercrime on a global scale, while creating a new forum for countries to directly interact, exchange and coordinate actions, even among countries with differences in institutions, value systems and legal systems.
The Deputy Foreign Minister of Vietnam said that by October 6, Vietnam had received confirmation to attend the opening ceremony of the treaty from nearly 100 countries, more than 100 international and regional organizations.

Politburo member and President Luong Cuong and United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres are expected to speak at the opening session.
In the question and answer session, sharing about Vietnam's contribution to the Hanoi Convention, Deputy Minister Dang Hoang Giang said that Vietnam has made many important contributions to the contents of the Convention, which have been welcomed by the international community.
Vietnam's proposals focus on core principles such as: Ensuring national sovereignty in cyberspace, enhancing international cooperation, and considering based on the capacity, conditions, and specific circumstances of each country in the cooperation process.
Vietnam has also been very active in coordinating and leading discussions, and has successfully chaired negotiations on a number of extremely important provisions of the Convention.

The signing ceremony of the Hanoi Convention was held on October 25, one day after the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations (October 24.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres attaches great importance to this event. The United Nations Secretary-General accepted to attend the signing ceremony on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the United Nations, demonstrating the United Nations' respect for this Convention, as well as Vietnam's position, role and contribution to the United Nations and the international community" - Deputy Minister Dang Hoang Giang said.
