On July 22, the sub-generator on Air India's AI-315 flight suddenly caught fire right after landing at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi. This flight departed from Hong Kong (China) and the incident occurred when passengers were leaving the plane.
According to Air India, all passengers were safe. However, the fire caused some damage to the plane. The incident marks the latest incident that the Indian domestic airline has faced in recent times.
A day earlier, an Air India domestic flight from Kochi to Mumbai skidded off the runway while landing in the rain, damaging the plane and affecting the runway. On the same day, another flight from New Delhi to Kolkata was canceled at the last minute after a technical error was discovered.
Last month, a catastrophic accident involving an Air India plane occurred right after takeoff from Ahmedabad, en route to London. The accident killed 241 people on the plane. The plane crash also killed 19 people on the ground and injured 67 others.
The series of consecutive incidents has raised many questions about Air India's maintenance and operations, in the context that the airline is under great pressure on safety and service quality.
