On July 21, at the National Assembly Headquarters, Vice President of the National Assembly Tran Quang Phuong received US Ambassador to Vietnam Marc E. Knapper to discuss orientations to strengthen bilateral cooperation within the framework of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the US.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at the reception, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Tran Quang Phuong affirmed that Vietnam attaches importance to the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with the US, thanking the US for supporting a "strong, independent, self-reliant and prosperous" Vietnam.
The Vice Chairman of the National Assembly suggested that Ambassador Knapper urge the US to continue to pay attention to allocating resources to realize existing commitments between the two leaders, coordinate to promote increased contacts and delegation exchanges at all levels and channels, especially visits by senior leaders to contribute to enhancing understanding and strengthening political trust between the two countries.
Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Tran Quang Phuong affirmed that the Vietnamese National Assembly is ready to welcome US National Assembly delegations to visit and work, and hoped that the two sides would promote exchange activities and learn legislative experience.
US Ambassador to Vietnam Marc E. Knapper affirmed that the US always wishes to closely coordinate with Vietnam to effectively implement the contents of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership framework on all pillars, especially promoting high-level contacts, expanding substantive cooperation in areas such as economy - trade - investment, education - training, national defense - security and overcoming the consequences of war, and emphasizing that the US will always accompany Vietnam in the process of striving to achieve socio-economic development goals.
Emphasizing the important significance of the 30th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between the two countries this year, the Ambassador pledged to continue efforts in the role of promoting relevant US agencies to coordinate with Vietnam to carry out practical and meaningful activities.
The Vice Chairman of the National Assembly suggested that the Ambassador and the Embassy continue to strengthen connectivity activities, promote cooperation, technology transfer, support Vietnam to become a high-tech hub of the region and an important " link" in the global semiconductor supply chain as well as continue to promote the US to soon recognize the Market Economy Regulations of Vietnam and remove Vietnam from the list of strategic export control D1 and D3.
Ambassador Knapper shared his deep impressions of the determination of Vietnamese authorities at all levels in implementing the two-level local government, saying that the Ambassador himself had witnessed the initial successes of this implementation through recent local business trips.
The Ambassador shared that the US business community was especially encouraged by the results achieved at the recent National Assembly Session, especially the contents related to the digital economy and the development of high-tech infrastructure.
Ambassador Knapper also expressed his deep condolences for the boat accident in Quang Ninh on July 19, affirming that the US is ready to support Vietnam in natural disaster prevention, rescue, and response to extreme weather phenomena.
