Unexpected shooting at crowd in church in US, many casualties

    A 25-year-old gunman opened fire in a church in Tennessee on September 24, killing one person and injuring seven others, the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department said.

    According to CNN, the shooting at Burnette Chapel Church in Antioch Quarter, Davidson County, a suburb of Nashville. The first call reported multiple gun shots at around 11:15 a.m. on September 24, police spokesman Don Aaron said.

    The suspect opened fire on Melanie Smith, 39, outside before bringing two Pistols inside the church and dropping bullets into a crowd attending a Sunday service in the church. A woman was killed and seven others were injured, federal officials told Fox News.

    The suspect, Emanuel Kidega Samson, 25, an Asian-American immigrant, was hospitalized after being hit by a bullet and arrested by police. The shooter will be charged with murder and attempted murder, spokesman Don Aaron said.

    Currently, authorities are continuing to investigate a motive for the shooting.
