On October 29, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova accused the West of trying to take combined aggressive measures against all those who support the truth to maintain dominance.
Speaking at the "Dialogue on Fake News 3.0" forum, Ms. Zakharova gave harsh comments about the way the West uses false information.
Ms. Zakharova especially criticized the way Western media spread fake news and information of unknown origin to sabotage upcoming Russia-US dialogues. She described a suspicious process: The false information initially appeared on anonymous social media accounts, then was "legalized" by major news agencies and reposted as official news.
According to Ms. Zakharova, the consequences of this process are that the public can no longer distinguish between real and fake information sources. Complex events are simplified and distorted into propaganda slogans. In the end, all this is only to serve the interests of a certain elite group in the West.
Ms. Zakharova also warned about artificial intelligence (AI). She was concerned that some Western countries could use AI to influence and control the world, not with guns and bullets but by changing people's thinking and moral attitudes.
She emphasized the need to protect people's right to access multidimensional information so that they can verify it themselves. She warned about the risk that AI systems, if mainly trained by some Western countries, could overwhelm information space, making it extremely difficult to find objective data, events or documents.
These statements demonstrate Russia's consistent stance, according to which Russia believes that Western information measures are seeking to negatively affect Moscow's international position as well as its internal situation. Therefore, responding to these activities is considered a high priority.
