This is the 6th season of the first major sporting event held in the Mekong Delta region, directed by the People's Committee of Hau Giang province and organized by the Department of Culture - Sports and Tourism. Nexus Media Joint Stock Company (Nexus Sport Events) continues to take on the role of coordination in implementation.
The tournament is part of the Vietnam Nexus Marathon Series (VNMS) system, organized and operated according to the professional standards of the Association of International Marathons and Distance Runners (AIMS).
The tournament is expected to gather about 10,000 athletes, including 2,000 children. The competition distances are designed in a variety of ways, suitable for many ages and physical conditions, including 1.2 km, 2.4 km, 5 km, 10 km, 21 km half marathon and 42 km marathon. All races take place on routes in Vi Thanh city and Vi Thuy district.
The total prize value of this year's tournament is up to more than 400 million VND, including a special prize worth 50 million VND for a male athlete and a female athlete who broke the 42 km distance record.
All athletes who complete the distances within the prescribed time will receive commemorative medals from the organizing committee.
The 6th "Vietcombank Mekong Delta" International Marathon is not only a large-scale sporting event, but also has the meaning of encouraging the community sports training movement in the spirit of the campaign "All people exercise following the example of great Uncle Ho" in the period of 2021-2030.
At the same time, this is also an opportunity for Hau Giang province to introduce the beauty of culture, people and natural landscapes to domestic and international friends, contributing to promoting tourism and raising public awareness of environmental protection.
