Late on October 24 Vietnam time, the Vietnam Sports Delegation received good news of winning the first medals at the 2025 Asian Youth Sports Festival competing in Bahrain.
Athlete Hoang Thi Thu Huyen won the first silver medal at the Games in the women's 44kg weight class. She beat Alabdallat Fatima (Jordan) 2-0 in the semi-final. Then, Hoang Thi Thu Huyen participated in the final but lost 0-2 to Serikbayeva Aiym (Kazakhstan) so she received a silver medal.
This is the first final match of the Vietnam taekwondo team at the 2025 Asian Youth Sports Festival. Following the above results, the Vietnamese taekwondo fighter won 2 more bronze medals.
The achievement belongs to boxer Tran Ho Van Nhan in the men's weight class over 73kg. This boxer entered the semi-finals but lost to opponent Eom Simok (Korea) with a score of 0-2, finishing 3rd overall. Boxer Bui Mai Phuong won the bronze medal in the women's 63kg weight class after losing 0-2 to Zhang Qing (China) in the semi-finals.
Temporarily, the Vietnam Sports Delegation won 3 medals (1 silver medal, 2 bronze medals). On the first day of competition (October 22), we had athlete Hoang Le Quynh Nhu compete in the 1,500m women's athletics event but only finished 4th. In addition, the school cycling team competed in the mixed-use team time calculation event but won 7th place.
On October 25, the athletes will continue to compete in many events and the Vietnam Sports Delegation is predicting to have a first gold medal. The 2025 Asian Youth Sports Festival will continue until October 30.
