In the afternoon of April 9, badminton player Nguyen Thuy Linh was the last representative of the Vietnamese badminton team to compete in the 2026 Asian Championships.
Thuy Linh competed in the 2nd round of the women's singles event. However, she faced a too strong opponent, the world No. 1 player, and also the No. 1 seed at the An Se Young tournament (Korea).
The Vietnamese player focused on showing all her ability but could not overwhelm the world No. 1 opponent. Despite trying, Nguyen Thuy Linh quickly dropped the racket after nearly 30 minutes of competition with a score of 0-2 (7/21, 6/21).
Previously, badminton player Nguyen Hai Dang also lost his first match in the men's singles and was eliminated. Vietnamese badminton also had pairs Tran Dinh Manh, Nguyen Dinh Hoang (men's doubles), Pham Thi Dieu Ly, Pham Thi Khanh (women's doubles), Tran Dinh Manh, Pham Thi Khanh (men's and women's doubles) who were eliminated.
Thus, the Vietnamese badminton team no longer has any players competing at the 2026 Asian Championship. The tournament will continue until the 12th. 4. This is a tournament that attracts all top Asian players to participate.
The coaching staff of the Vietnamese badminton team also identified the competition program as an opportunity for Vietnamese athletes to grasp more opponents at ASIAD 20 in September in Japan.
