The 2025 Southeast Asian Chess Championship ended its final events on November 10 local time. On the last day, Vietnamese chess won 2 championships in the men's sprint chess and women's light-work chess.
In the men's rapid chess group, player Nguyen Quoc Hy won the championship after scoring 6 points after 7 matches. Quoc Hy did not lose any game in his matches and won 5 and 2 draws to maintain his No. 1 position. In this group, Quoc Hy's teammate Dang Hoang Son also had 6 points but was lower than the secondary index, so he ranked second, receiving a silver medal.
In the women's chess group, player Nguyen Hong Anh won the gold medal after achieving 8.5 points through 9 games. Hong Anh has won 8 matches and drawn 1 of their matches.
In the women's rapid chess and men's light chess groups, Vietnamese players were unsuccessful in their competition and did not win any medals.
Previously, the Vietnamese chess team also won a silver medal in the men's standard chess event with the competition results of young player Nguyen Quoc Hy (reaching 6.5 points after 9 matches).
In this tournament, many grandmasters are expected by fans to have good results such as Tran Tuan Minh, Hoang Thi Bao Tram or Nguyen Thi Mai Hung but did not get a final medal. The Vietnamese chess team participated in 15 players in this year's tournament.
