In the men's standard chess event, grandmaster Tran Tuan Minh (Hanoi) defeated two players Tran Ngoc Minh Duy (Dong Nai) and Vo Pham Thien Phuc (Ho Chi Minh City) to win the championship.
Tran Tuan Minh won 8 points after 9 matches. Runner-up was Minh Duy with 7.5 points and 3rd place was Thien Phuc with 7 points.
The final day of the tournament also ended with the Maruk and Asean standard chess event. In the Asean standard men's chess group, grandmaster Dao Thien Hai (Ho Chi Minh City) won the gold medal with a total of 6.5 points after 7 matches. Runner-up Doan Thi Van Anh (Bac Ninh) won the women's group with 7.5 points over 9 matches.
The champion of the Maruk men's standard chess is Vu Hoang Gia Bao (An Giang) while the champion of the women's group is Pham Thanh Phuong Thao (Hai Phong). This year, the Maruk flag is included in the competition program of the 33rd SEA Games.
