The 2025 ASEAN Police and Police Football Tournament kicked off in Hanoi and Hung Yen with the participation of 8 teams. Of which, there are 7 teams from 6 Southeast Asian countries: Vietnam (2 teams), Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Singapore, Timor Leste and 1 guest team, Australia.
The tournament is part of a series of activities to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the People's Public Security Traditional Day (August 19, 1945 - August 19, 2025) and the 20th anniversary of the National Day for National Security Protection (August 19, 2005 - August 19, 2025).
According to Colonel Pham Kim Dinh - Director of the Department of Political Affairs, Ministry of Public Security, this is an international sports exchange activity of profound political and foreign significance of the Vietnam People's Public Security force. The tournament is not only an opportunity for police officers and police officers from other countries to practice sports and develop team spirit; at the same time, it is a playground to strengthen friendship and cooperation between forces on duty to ensure security and order in the region.
This year's tournament brings together many teams with quality forces from local and international police and police forces. The Lao Police team brought a team of experienced players, including many national players such as Keodouangdeth, Keoviengphet, Viengkham and Phomvongsa. This is a force that is considered capable of causing big surprises in the tournament.
On the Thai side, the participating squad mainly consists of players serving in the police sector of this country. A notable highlight is the return of Tana Chanabut - a former player who contributed to the 2007 SEA Games championship of the Thai team.
Meanwhile, the Singapore team brought tournaments to many names that have played professionally in the national championship of this country in the colors of leading clubs such as Tampines Rovers, Lion City Sailors. Although some players have retired, they still have a good technical foundation.
Not only that, other representatives such as the Cambodian Police, Timor Leste and the visiting team Australia are also highly appreciated for their fiery fighting spirit.
In particular, host Vietnam sent the two teams to participate with well-prepared forces. The Vietnam People's Public Security Team I brings together a group of young players wearing the Hanoi Police jersey, typically Ha Van Phuong, Hoang Van Toan or Giap Tuan Duong.
In addition, the CAND Vietnam II team is a group of experienced players such as goalkeeper Phi Minh Long, defender Van Dung or central midfielder Huy Hung - who participated in the 2018 AFF Cup championship campaign.
Before the tournament, the head coach of the Thai team said: I participated in this tournament in 2012 and now have the opportunity to return to Vietnam. Our goal is to win the championship.
According to the branch, the teams in Group A, CAND Vietnam I, Laos, Thailand, and Cambodia, will compete at Hang Day Stadium (Hanoi). Meanwhile, the matches in Group B will take place at PVF Stadium (Hung Yen) with competition between the CAND Vietnam II team, Australia, Singapore, Timor-Leste.
The teams will compete in a round robin to calculate points, the top two teams in each group will enter the semi-finals and the two semi-finalists will meet in the final to select the champion. The group stage will take place from July 7 to 11.7; the two semi-final matches will take place on July 13 and the final match will take place on July 15 at Hang Day Stadium.
