Hoang Thi My Tam is expected to win a personal gold medal in the 55kg women's sparring event at the 2026 Asian Karate Championships being held in Indonesia. Unfortunately, she did not reach the final.
On the competition day of June 19, local time, Hoang Thi My Tam lost in the semi-finals of the event to opponent Alisha Alisha (India).
After that, Hoang Thi My Tam competed with Mohsenian Masoumeh (Iran) in the Repechage match to win 3-0. The victory helped Hoang Thi My Tam win a bronze medal.
In 2024 and 2025, Hoang Thi My Tam both won gold medals in the women's 55kg event at the Asian Karate Championships. The fact that she could not defend her individual gold medal at this year's tournament is a surprise to fans.
However, Hoang Thi My Tam is still competing in the women's team kumite (combat) event at the 2026 Asian Karate Championships to find opportunities to win the highest medal.
At the 2026 Asian Karate Championships, the Vietnamese karate team participated with 20 key martial artists in the kumite (combat) and kata (performance) events.
This is also the core group of fighters being prepared for ASIAD 20.
The competition program of the 2026 Asian Karate Championship will last until June 21.
After this tournament, Hoang Thi My Tam and her teammates will prepare professionally to continue competing in the 2026 Southeast Asian Championship taking place in July in Ninh Binh.
