On February 24, representatives of the karate department (Department of Physical Education and Sports of Vietnam) met and inspected the training program at the beginning of 2026 of the Vietnamese karate team after the Tet holiday program.
The Vietnamese karate team will have many key tasks in 2026, especially competing in ASIAD 20 in Japan.
Therefore, head coach Pham Hong Ha and the coaching staff maintain the spirit of urgent training for all kumite (combat) and kata (performance) martial artists of the Vietnamese karate team when returning after the holidays. Currently, the Vietnamese karate team trains 39 martial artists according to event groups.
In addition to the ASIAD 20 mission, the Vietnamese karate team will have competition programs for the 2026 Asian Championship in June in Indonesia and the 2026 Southeast Asian Championship in July in Vietnam.
At the 2026 gathering, the Vietnamese karate team still has leading professional faces entering training such as Hoang Thi My Tam, Dinh Thi Huong, Nguyen Thi Dieu Ly, Khuat Hai Nam, Nguyen Ngoc Tram, Giang Viet Anh, Pham Minh Duc...
This year, the Vietnamese karate team has changed many personnel in the coaching staff. Among them, coach Pham Hong Ha is assigned the task of being the head coach of the team.
Coach Duong Hoang Long (who used to hold the position of head coach in 2025) has left the Vietnam Karate Team according to personal wishes.
At ASIAD 19 held in 2023 in China, the Vietnamese karate team won 1 gold medal, 1 silver medal, and 2 bronze medals.
