On the morning of March 6, at Tien Son Sports Palace, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Da Nang City organized the Chess and Chinese Chess Tournament of the 10th Da Nang City Sports Festival, 2026. This is a tournament within the program of the 10th Da Nang City Sports Festival (TDTT).
The tournament takes place from March 6 to March 8, attracting the participation of 507 athletes (athletes) from communes, wards and special zones throughout the city. The tournament is of special significance as it is the first large-scale sports activity organized after merging Quang Nam province and Da Nang city into a new administrative unit.
Specifically, Chess sport gathers 223 chess players from 29 commune and ward units. General Chess sport has the participation of 284 athletes from 47 units. Athletes will compete in many rich contents including: Standard Chess, Rapid Chess (for Chess) and Standard Chess, Blitz Chess (for General Chess) for both individuals and male and female teammates.



Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism Tao Viet Hai said that the tournament is not only a practical activity to celebrate the election of National Assembly deputies of the 16th term and People's Council deputies at all levels for the 2026 - 2031 term, but also an important professional playground.
Through the tournament, the city's Sports sector will re-evaluate the chess training movement among the people, creating conditions for athletes to exchange and improve their skills. In particular, this is a key basis to select the most outstanding faces into the city team, preparing for the goal of conquering medals at the upcoming X National Sports Games.


To encourage the fighting spirit of the chess players, the Organizing Committee will award Gold, Silver and third place medals to individuals and teams with high rankings. In addition to medals and certificates, winning athletes will receive cash prizes according to regulations.
Immediately after the opening ceremony, the chess players entered the first rounds with determination and high concentration.
