Mr. Le Van Tiet, born in 1939, is one of the most outstanding tennis players in the history of Vietnamese sports. Throughout his playing career, he and his teammate Mai Van Hoa are two rare Vietnamese tennis players who have ever been in the world's top 10. The 1950s and 1960s were his peak period when he continuously won resounding achievements in international, continental and regional tournaments.
At the age of 19, at the 2005 Asian Games, he, Mai Van Hoa, Tran Canh Duoc and Tran Van Lieu won the gold medal in the men's team event. Also at this tournament, he defeated Japanese tennis player Toshiaki Tanaka, who was the reigning world champion at the time.
With impressive form and a strong record, Mr. Le Van Tiet rose to 6th place in the world table tennis rankings in 1959. Also in that year, the Vietnamese table tennis team with his participation won a bronze medal at the World Table Tennis Championship.
After 1975, he continued to be associated with table tennis as a coach of the Tan Binh District team (HCMC). Although he has retired, he still spends most of his time imparting experience to the younger generation, from teaching football to compiling training materials. At the age of over 80, he still regularly interacts and competes closely with young athletes as a way to maintain his passion.
His passing away after a period of fighting the disease left deep regret in the hearts of fans.
