The Vietnam futsal team will enter the journey at the 2026 Southeast Asian Futsal Championship from today (April 6) with the goal of competing for a ticket to the semi-finals, aiming to improve their performance after missing the championship in the previous tournament.
In the group stage, the Vietnam futsal team is in Group A with Myanmar, Timor-Leste and host Thailand. Meanwhile, Group B includes Indonesia, Australia, Malaysia and Brunei.
According to the schedule, coach Diego Giustozzi's team will successively meet Myanmar (April 6), Timor-Leste (April 7) and Thailand (April 8). The team has departed for Thailand from March 30 to have the best preparation for this year's tournament.
After losing to Indonesia in the final of the previous tournament, the Vietnamese futsal team is determined to go deep and compete for the championship. With the relative strength in Group A, the team is assessed to have a great opportunity to win one of the top two positions to enter the semi-finals, although the match with host Thailand is predicted to be difficult.
In this gathering, coach Diego Giustozzi attracted attention when recalling goalkeeper Ho Van Y. This is considered an important addition to the squad that is in the process of rejuvenation.
Sharing about this decision, Mr. Giustozzi said that Van Y is a player with rich international experience, with a leadership role and the return of this goalkeeper will help the team increase quality as well as balance in the squad before the tournament.
