Recently, the Vietnam Volleyball Federation held a meeting to resolve a number of issues, including the case of a player who was eliminated from the 2025 U21 World Cup by the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB).
The opinions at the meeting agreed not to allow player Dang Thi Hong to participate in the second phase of the 2025 national championship. The main striker born in 2006 will also not be able to participate in official tournaments of the Vietnam Volleyball Federation from next year.
Talking to Lao Dong on the morning of September 17, Mr. Le Tri Truong - General Secretary of the Vietnam Volleyball Federation said: "FIVB checks the status of athletes with many inspection contents. Regarding FIVB regulations, the Vietnam Volleyball Federation is responsible for checking the athlete's status through a birth certificate and the Federation has sent the birth certificate in accordance with regulations.
But with FIVB, they have many other tests, in addition to birth certificates, they can check for hoocmon, DNA... They notify individual athletes to request an inspection, the results are also sent to that individual athlete. Regarding Dang Thi Hong's case, they have announced on the homepage that they are not eligible to compete".
Mr. Truong added: "Regarding the decision of the World Volleyball Federation, VFV has made a written recommendation on their approach, about the FIVB not having specific instructions but still conducting an inspection and making a decision. Of course, FIVB has the right to do these things, but the way to do them and the method of doing them are not in the specific instructions."
Currently, FIVB has decided to stop Dang Thi Hong from competing in international tournaments. Therefore, the 19-year-old striker is not allowed to participate in national tournaments according to regulations, until further information is available.
"Here, not only Dang Thi Hong but all domestic and foreign athletes (transferred) will not be able to participate in the national tournament when the FIVB has decided to stop competing.
For Dang Thi Hong, FIVB has made a decisive decision from the U21 World Cup, whether right or wrong, the Vietnam Volleyball Federation must comply. After that, if FIVB has new information, VFV will take the next steps," said the VFV General Secretary.
The Vietnam Volleyball Federation (VFV) and the Thai Nguyen home club will create conditions for the main striker Dang Thi Hong to study at Bac Ninh University of Sports and Physical Training, opening up opportunities to become a coach if she is determined to pursue a new path. This is considered a positive direction after the incident in her playing career.
