The World Football Federation (FIFA) has yet to announce a final verdict on the scandal of forging naturalization documents of the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) and 7 South American players, although the original plan was on October 30.
According to Malaysian media, FIFA has changed the schedule and confirmed the final hearing of the Appeal Committee taking place today (October 21) in Miami (USA). This session will focus on clarifying evidence related to the accusation of 7 Malaysian players for forging their background documents to qualify for international competitions. The final verdict is expected to be announced within hours of the hearing's conclusion.
Previously, on the evening of October 30 (Vietnam time), the FIFA Appeal Committee held an online meeting with the participation of a FAM representative - considered an explanation session. FAM affirmed that it would take the case to the International Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) if the appeal results were unfavorable.
We believe in the fairness of the process, but we are ready to pursue the case to the end to protect the rights of Malaysian football, said the FAM representative.
Currently, all evidence is at a disadvantage for Malaysia. The leader of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) confirmed that he will handle it strictly after FIFA makes an official decision. In the worst case, Malaysia could be eliminated from the 2027 Asian Cup if they fail in their appeal.
A source from the AFC added: When FIFA completes the investigation, the documents will be transferred to us to consider the validity of the players. If violations of regulations are detected, the AFC Disciplinary Committee will take corresponding measures.
The incident is being considered the largest naturalization scandal in the history of Malaysian football and could seriously affect the country's image on the international stage.
