Before the kick-off of the second leg of the ASEAN Cup 2026 semi-final between Vietnam and Malaysia on the evening of August 19, My Dinh Stadium observed a minute of silence to commemorate coach Phan Thanh Hung.
The ceremony was held to show gratitude for the contributions of the veteran coach to Vietnamese football. Previously, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) proposed to observe a minute of silence for coach Phan Thanh Hung and received the approval of the Southeast Asian Football Federation (AFF).
Coach Phan Thanh Hung passed away after a period of illness. He is one of the coaches who has made many contributions to Vietnamese football, once leading the national team and many clubs in the V.League.
In his career, he served as an assistant coach for the Vietnamese national team under coach Henrique Calisto, then became the head coach of the Vietnamese national team at the 2012 AFF Cup. At the club level, he led Hanoi, Than Quang Ninh, Binh Duong and Da Nang.
The passing of coach Phan Thanh Hung left much regret from generations of players, coaches and Vietnamese football fans.
The moment of silence took place in a solemn atmosphere before the two teams entered the match to decide the ticket to the ASEAN Cup 2026 final.
