The main player must not fail
Two years ago at the 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia, the No. 1 athlete in the competition (kumite) of the Vietnamese karate team, Hoang Thi My Tam, won 2 Gold Medals (55kg individual event for women, women's team event).
After 2 years, Hoang Thi My Tam still has high performance. She just won 2 Gold Medals at the 2025 Asian Championship. Head coach Duong Hoang Long of the Vietnam Karate team returning from the 2025 Asian Championship shared: My Tam is an athlete who has maintained a stable performance. We believe that you will continue to maintain your expertise at the 33rd SEA Games.
The Vietnamese karate team won 6 Gold Medals at the 32nd SEA Games, so the leaders of the Vietnam Department of Physical Education and Sports assigned the fighters to strive to defend the above achievements at the 33rd SEA Games.
Meanwhile, the Vietnam Wushu Team plans to continue registering golden girl Duong Thuy Vi to compete in the 33rd SEA Games. Duong Thuy Vi won consecutive Gold Medals at the 31st and 32nd SEA Games. However, all professional calculations are being considered by the host Thailand to limit the number of events organized for wushu this time.
In August 2025, Duong Thuy Vi will participate in the 2025 World Games in China and this is the time for her coaching staff to check her expertise. The Vietnamese boxing team currently owns the No. 1 Asian boxer in the women's 63kg category, Ha Thi Linh. The women's 63kg event continues to be available at the 33rd SEA Games.
After 2 years since winning the Gold Medal at the 31st SEA Games, Ha Thi Linh has made a great contribution to her achievements by winning a place at the 2024 Paris Olympics (France), the 2024 Asian Silver Medal and the 2025 World Championship Bronze Medal.
We will focus on our expertise so that Ha Thi Linh can reach her full professional potential even though competing in Thailand is not easy, coach Nguyen Nhu Cuong of the Vietnamese boxing team once shared.
Surprises can still happen
The 32nd SEA Games witnessed a big surprise when the main boxer Nguyen Thi Tam was eliminated after losing the first match of the women's 50kg category. Similarly, famous fighter Phung Thi Hue also disappointed the manager by not winning the Gold Medal in jujitsu at the 32nd SEA Games.
Each of the above cases shows that in every situation, there are still surprises that occur even though our athletes have good expertise.
Vietnamese sports focus on winning Gold Medals in the SEA Games for the martial arts team. We always win Gold Medals in wushu, karate, taekwondo, boxing, kickboxing, muay, jujitsu, judo... Currently, Vietnamese sports have registered for the sports and events that will participate in the 33rd SEA Games.
General Secretary of the Vietnam Weight Federation - Mr. Ta Dinh Duc shared: "We do not want any athlete to lose the highest achievement, so the Vietnam Weightlifting Team is highly focused on competing in the 33rd SEA Games".
