On August 20, local time in Romania, Nguyen Thuy Hien and her teammates competed in the first event of the 2025 World Youth Swimming Championship.
Thuy Hien participated in the qualifying round of the women's 100m freestyle event. The event has played 11 qualifying rounds, Thuy Hien participated in the eighth round. At the end of the competition, she finished in third place in this qualifying round with a time of 56 seconds 92.
However, the achievement was not enough to help Thuy Hien enter the semi-finals of the event. With this result, Thuy Hien ranked 27th overall. The coaching staff of the Vietnam Swimming Team said that Thuy Hien will participate in four other events at the tournament.
On the same day of competition, athlete Nguyen Kha Nhi finished the women's 800m freestyle event with a time of 9 minutes 03 seconds 38 to rank 11th.
In the men's 200m freestyle event, Vietnamese swimming had Tran Van Nguyen Quoc compete and achieved a result of 1 minute 52 seconds 72 but did not make it to the semi-finals. The male player reached 34th place overall.
Meanwhile, in the men's 100m butterfly event, Duong Van Hoang Quy has a time of 56 seconds 84, so he is ranked 46th after the qualifying round.
Previously, Duong Van Hoang Quy competed in the men's individual 200m mixed event, ranked 31st with a result of 2 minutes 06 seconds 48.
The 2025 World Youth Swimming Championship will be held in Romania until August 24.
